Thanks to the support of many local businesses and organisations, Habitat Central is able to provide a range of programmes to build homes, communities and hope.
Owning a home feels out of reach for many New Zealanders. Progressive Home Ownership is our rent-to-buy partnership programme, providing families with stability and self-reliance.
The Progressive Home Ownership process:
1. Families apply, are interviewed, and agree to partner with Habitat for Humanity.
2. Homes are built, and selected families move in. The homes eventual purchase price is agreed.
3. Affordable rent is paid over the first five years. Rent, less Habitat’s costs, begin to build up a deposit.
4. Habitat continues to support families through life’s ups and downs.
5. After five years, families can purchase the home from Habitat, using their rent and value equity.
As well as a clear housing need, applicants need to show a willingness to partner with Habitat and have the potential to successfully shift to home ownership.
Our Home Repair Programme is an affordable, interest-free solution for homeowners needing support with critical repairs and maintenance. It’s about keeping homes warm, dry, healthy and safe.
If you own and occupy your home and need a hand up to get back on track with your home maintenance, Habitat’s Home Repair Programme may be for you.
The Home Repair Programme is supported by BNZ through their interest free line of credit.

We provide affordable and stable rental homes, often in partnership with iwi, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, councils and others. As a Community Housing Provider, we are a social landlord, which sets us apart and guides us to allocate our warm, dry, safe and secure homes based on need.
We work across many public housing programmes, all with the aim to support those facing housing affordability challenges. From working with government departments, councils, or private developers, to providing affordable rentals.
As a public housing provider, we look at every available opportunity to deliver decent housing for Kiwis in need who meet our criteria.

Established by the community, for the community, Freeman Court provides an affordable place for older people to continue to live independently in Te Awamutu.
We encourage independent living and wellbeing for as long as possible within a safe and secure environment.
Up to 36 residents enjoy their lives while finding peace of mind knowing support is there if needed. Residents each have their own single room with comfortable bedroom furniture, heating, and opening windows. Everyone has access to communal areas, including lounges, courtyards and dining.
Nic has led Habitat for Humanity Central Region since 2009, and is also the co-chair of Community Housing Aotearoa. A former officer with the Royal New Zealand Air Force, Nic has significant leadership experience spanning military, education and SMEs, including a period as the Business Development Manager at Wintec. He has served as acting CEO of Habitat for Humanity New Zealand, was a member of Habitat's senior manager collective, the Chair of several national steering groups, and a trustee of the Hamilton Multicultural Services Trust.
Tracey leads social enterprise, HR, communications, and other supports for Habitat Central Region. She has more than 20 years of experience working in the charitable sector in Waikato across various general management disciplines in sport, electricity supply, events and rural, which followed a career as a community and sports journalist and photographer, web editor and copywriter. Tracey was the co-founder of a sustainability education social enterprise, and is a one-time playwright. She holds a Bachelor of Media Arts (Wintec) and is passionate about matters that impact on communities and children, and helping to improve understanding through compassion.
Martin holds degrees in Business Science (Information Systems Honours) and a Master of Finance. Martin brings over 20 years’ experience in Financial Services, spanning across sectors from Investment and Private Banking to Venture Capital and Asset Management. Having worked across Africa and the UK, Martin played an instrumental role in establishing and leading several housing development finance initiatives that leveraged capital settings to achieve positive housing outcomes in markets with previously little to no access. He has designed, set up and lead Finance, Operations and Information System teams and structures in numerous jurisdictions.
Nathan brings more than 25 years’ experience in the communities and construction sector to his role as Chief Operating Officer, Central Region. A graduate of the University of Waikato’s Community and Enterprise Leadership Foundation, Nathan began his career as a builder and went on to work as a tutor (in Built Environment). Nathan believes strongly in a people-centred partnership approach, culture development, and Habitat for Humanity’s kaupapa of a "hand up, not a hand out." A seasoned leader of overseas Global Village experiences, Nathan has operational oversight of Habitat Central’s housing programmes.

Donations over $5.00 are tax deductible. You can submit your receipt to IRD website, and they will process your tax rebate.
Yes, you can give regular monthly donations to your chose Habitat for Humanity appeal. Just select 'give monthly' when processing your donation payment.

Your credit card will be charged once you submit your first monthly gift, and future donations will be made on that same day going forward.
