Let's open the door to cyclone preparedness

Together, we're helping Pacific families prepare for the future

Before the next cyclone season arrives, communities across the Pacific are preparing for the future.

🏠 Safer homes
Strengthening homes to better withstand severe weather.

🔨 Practical skills
Participants gain hands-on skills such as cyclone strapping, stronger roof connections and safer construction techniques that can help homes withstand future storms.

💧 Water security
Communities gain knowledge that helps protect access to safe water during and after emergencies.

🤝 Community-led planning
Communities identify risks, create preparedness plans and take action together.

This is what cyclone preparedness looks like: communities becoming stronger before the storm.

Built by communities. Made possible by you.

Multiply your impact

Right now, your donation can help more Pacific communities prepare before disaster strikes.

$30 becomes $150

$50 becomes $250

$100 becomes $500

Every $1 donated to Pacific funds become $5, thanks to match funding by the New Zealand Government. That means more communities can strengthen homes, build practical skills and prepare before the next cyclone season arrives.

Communities are strongest when they are empowered to lead and implement their own change.

Meet communities preparing for the future

Preparedness looks different in every community. For some families, it starts with a safer home. For others, it starts with practical skills that help strengthen homes before the next storm.

Melania: A safer home before the next storm

At 63, Melania finally has a place she can call home.

After losing her husband, a safe and secure home felt increasingly out of reach. Today, she lives in a cyclone-safe home alongside her family in Fiji, made possible through Habitat for Humanity New Zealand's work in the Pacific.

For Melania, a safe home means more than shelter. It means stability, peace of mind and confidence in the future.

Tiseni: Skills that strengthen homes

When Tiseni joined Habitat's Build Back Safer training programme, he learned practical construction skills that help make homes safer and more resilient.

From cyclone strapping to safer building techniques, the skills he learned can be used to support others in his community and strengthen homes before the next storm.

Practical skills like these remain in communities long after training ends, helping families prepare for future challenges.

The beginning of Tiseni's building career: "It makes me feel proud.
