Build Back Safer

Through our Build Back Safer (BBS), we’re working with Pacific communities to build the skills needed to identify shelter risks and rebuild disaster resilient shelters using local knowledge and technologies.

Through this programme, communities can reduce disaster risks and enhance resilience through a safer and well-adapted built environment. Our approach is always to understand the needs of the community first and work with local partners so communities can develop their plan for what needs to be done.

Between July 2024 and June 2025, 114 community members in six communities across Fiji, Tonga and Samoa completed Build Back Safer training, and 951 completed Participatory Approach to Safe Shelter Awareness programmes.
