Flooding across Nepal in August 2017 have left 75,000 families affected, with over 7,000 now without a place to live. This follows from disasters in recent times, with a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Saturday, 25 April 2015.
Habitat for Humanity New Zealand is a part of the international Habitat for Humanity response to the earthquakes, and more recent floods, partnering with the Nepalese people as we work to rebuild hope and homes in their communities.
We’re grateful to our supporters and partners who give generously to the Habitat disaster response fund. The more funds we raise, the more families we can help.
No matter who we are or where we come from, we all deserve to have a decent place to live. We deserve to feel strength and stability day after day. We deserve to know we have the power to take care of ourselves and build our own futures.
At Habitat for Humanity, this is what unites us. Through shelter, we empower. Our shared vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Because you, me, we — we’re all humans. And every single one of us deserves the opportunity for a better future.
Habitat for Humanity Northland is raising money to build a Habitat home in Northland. This build will be in partnership with Northland Regional Correction Facility. Habitat puts great value on this partnership with Corrections. We see building homes as a process that will not only benefit the deserving family who will one day own the home, but also provides a great opportunity for the prisoners to gain work experience, preparing them for a career in construction while also helping a Northland whanau in housing need.
Throughout October we are showcasing our first art exhibition ‘The Power of Shelter’ at the Whangarei Art Museum. This is a collection of work from both local artists and prisoners contemplating the power of shelter and what home means to them. The exhibition will be closed with an art auction on the 30th October at 5.30pm in the Whangarei Art Museum and all proceeds will go towards this fundraiser to build another Habitat home. Tickets available here: https://goo.gl/PVpkcD.

Together we can make a difference.
