Habitat for Humanity Central North Island is meeting more and more low-income homeowners who have been unable to keep up with repair and maintenance on their homes. We know this happens for a lot of reason – some have simply fallen on hard times – and we also know home ownership isn’t always an indication there’s an absence of poverty.
People apply to the programme because there could be a lack of electricity or plumbing, rotten or missing linings, unsuitable bathrooms used by older people or those with a disability, leaking roofs, no heating – or all of the above. Poor health is almost always present.
Habitat Central North Island’s home repair programme allows people to have work done, with low or no interest repayments, depending on the scope*. A donation towards this work will help continue to make this happen, at an affordable cost. Read about how we helped Huntly foster parents restore power and warmth
