Severe flooding and torrential rain in Sri Lanka has destroyed more than 3000 homes, and displaced more than 50,000 families. Particularly for those without access to safe shelter and proper sanitation, recovery after a disaster is incredibly difficult.

Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka is responding in Kalutara Province, providing transitional shelters and water and sanitation kits to families displaced by the flooding. These critical supplies allow families to start rebuilding their lives after a disaster.

Nepal Earthquake - Habitat disaster response fund

Nepal Earthquake - Habitat disaster response fund

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Saturday, 25 April 2015. More than 2,400 people died as a result of the quake and an avalanche was triggered on Mount Everest. The Nepalese government declared a state of emergency in affected areas and appealed for international assistance.

Habitat for Humanity New Zealand is a part of the international Habitat for Humanity response to the earthquakes, partnering with the Nepalese people as we work to rebuild hope and homes in their communities.

We’re grateful to our supporters and partners who give generously to the Habitat disaster response fund. The more funds we raise, the more families we can help.

Help Syrian families

Help Syrian families

The Syrian Refugee crisis has resulted in a large influx of people into neighbouring countries. Habitat for Humanity New Zealand’s work in the region is in Lebanon, and in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Lebanon.

The project ensures that families not living in refugee camps are living in hospitable and safe structures, through work like the construction of room partitions, and through the supply of bedding and other basic necessities, and sometimes through the rehoming of families.
