Every 24 hours Habitat for Humanity completes 115 homes around the world. The needs of all these families are diverse, but so are the Habitat for Humanity solutions. Habitat builds new homes and repairs others. Habitat helps those who have been struck by disaster and partners in international projects to provide communities with shelter, sanitation and a decent place to live. No matter which housing solution, the outcomes are great: a foundation for a better life.
The Syrian Refugee crisis has resulted in a large influx of people into neighbouring countries. Habitat for Humanity New Zealand’s work in the region is in Lebanon, and in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Lebanon.
The project ensures that families not living in refugee camps are living in hospitable and safe structures, through work like the construction of room partitions, and through the supply of bedding and other basic necessities, and sometimes through the rehoming of families.
This urgently needed project will work alongside communities across Fiji to prepare for future disasters. It is the largest project of its type ever conducted in Fiji. By partnering with local communities, Habitat will help themto develop the skills to identify risks and prepare for future storms. They will also ensure communities are equipped with effective building practices to help build homes that are able to withstand tropical storms.
Habitat for Humanity New Zealand is a not-for-profit organisation that works in partnership with people of goodwill and families in housing need, to eliminate sub-standard housing.
