Habitat for Humanity Central North Island celebrates 20 years

Habitat for Humanity Central North Island celebrated its 20th birthday on Saturday with a dinner for supporters, staff, volunteers and partner families.

Board members John Gallagher, Lynnette Flowers and Habitat for Humanity New Zealand CEO Claire Szabo spoke about the  affiliate’s success, and gave thanks to the Habitat family and volunteers for their dedication in making Habitat what it is for the past two decades.

General Manager Nic Greene also gave a heartwarming speech to the attendees about the blood, sweat and tears that has been poured in tohelping deserving families with a hand-up in to simple, decent homes.

It has gone from being fuelled by spirit and passion, to a multi-million dollar charitable entity which focuses on providing simple decent shelter services to those in need.”

It was a memorable moment for Habitat when awards were given to three recipients.

The recipient of the volunteer of the year award was ReStore volunteer stalwart Pam Mather. The Hodgkinson Award was presented to Bob Hall, for his significant volunteer contribution, in particular his involvement with the Hawke’s Bay committee of Habitat for Humanity CNI.
