Hi Guys,
In October of this year I will travel to Ethiopia on the trip of a lifetime - to work on a building project with Habitat for Humanity.
If you don’t already know what they do throughout the world LOOK THEM UP! (inspiring stuff!) There is a major housing crises throughout the world, 25% of the worlds population is living in sub standard housing without access to proper sanitation or clean water. Habitat for Humanity is doing amazing things to try and rectify this ever-increasing problem!
I have always been interested in developing nations and realizing the immense struggle that is everyday reality for so many millions of people in the world. I completed a Bachelor of Design in 2009 and during my time at University I was exposed to endless images and insight to architectural wonders. Astounding talent and time being spent on flashy new retail stores and apartments. What unsettled me most was the superficial nature of these projects. They are no less valid than a thatch hut in the middle of a dessert in Africa, but with the gap between poor and rich getting bigger by the moment it struck me. Who is spending their talent and time on the developing nations. I decided I wanted to help in whatever way possible.
If you are a fellow designer be proud of your profession and the amazing chance we now have now to change the future of so many peoples lives. So get involved and get thinking how we can make the world better for people just like you and I.
I need to raise $5700 for the trip costs and anything over and above that will go to Habitat for Humanity for project costs!
