Bequests

Habitat for Humanity relies heavily on donations and sponsorships of many kinds, to assist in the work of giving Partner Families a “hand up” into simple, affordable housing.

Bequests form a very important way of helping Habitat for Humanity achieve this challenge.

If you wish to include a bequest to Habitat for Humanity in your will, we recommend that you see your Solicitor. Possible wording for a codicil to be added to your existing will could be along the following lines:

"I give, devise and bequeath (free of all charges and duties) to Habitat for Humanity New Zealand Limited,
  1. ...the sum of $...
  2. (or)...% (proportion of my residuary estate...
  3. (or)...nominated property…
for the general purposes of the organisation. And I further declare that the receipt of the Chief Executive or Chief Financial Officer of Habitat for Humanity New Zealand shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Trustees for the same and my Trustees shall not be bound to see the application thereof. In all other respects I confirm my Will."

Note: Habitat for Humanity is a limited company as we sell houses to partner families. It is registered with the IRD as a company with charitable status.

If you have designated Habitat for Humanity in your will, please let us know. We would like to personally thank you for your generosity.

If you prefer to remain anonymous, your gift will be kept confidential. However, recognition of your gift can encourage others to do the same. Either way, we will honour your wishes, because we appreciate your support immensely.
