What happens if the family does not make their payments?
Habitat makes every effort to work with the partner families to avoid foreclosure or referral to the Tenancy Tribunal (as appropriate, depending on stage of partnership) through financial counseling, renegotiated payments, etc. Strategies such as payment plans and deeds in lieu of foreclosure are implemented when possible.
While foreclosure is the last resort, sometimes it cannot be avoided. Ignoring partner family delinquencies would be unfair to other Habitat families, and contrary to Habitat's principles.
