What do these figures mean?
The families Habitat for Humanity has served both here in New Zealand and overseas is made up of the following..
The families served in New Zealand is from two areas:
- New homes. For twenty years Habitat has built homes in New Zealand on an affordable basis. Nearly 400 families are now in safe, decent homes from Northland to Invercargill.
- A Brush with Kindness. ABWK assists the elderly, those with disabilities, or who, through personal circumstances, are unable to keep on top of their home maintenance. With the support of qualified tradespeople and volunteers, homeowners pitch in where they can and pay for work done on an affordable basis. Every family helped with A Brush with Kindness programme is noted here.
The families served overseas again are made up from two areas:
- Global Village trips by NZ teams. Global Villagers are invited into a local community to immerse themselves in its life and culture, understand the poverty issues they face, and help build a Habitat home alongside a hard-working family. Every Global Village team build one home overseas.
- With every home built in New Zealand the local affiliate helps support the building of one house overseas. This is called a Tithe. Over the years we have supported building in Fiji, currently our tithe donation goes to Nepal and Cambodia. We have calculated that from every $3500 USD given it equates to one house in the Asia Pacific region.
