National Board Member Profiles

Grant Cathro - Chair

Grant's professional life began as a Medical Technologist where he worked in NZ and then in Ecuador as a missionary for 15 years. During this period he moved into management and ultimately with a particular focus in the HR area. He served on the Field Council and International Board of HCJB Global. Upon returning to NZ in 1990, he headed up the NZ office of HCJB. Grant began service with Habitat for Humanity's National Office in 1997 and in 1999 took on the role of Executive Director which he held until 2005. Grant and his wife Debbie now spend their time being grandparents (to a growing number of grandchildren) and parents to a blended family of 9 children. Grant serves as a Director on the Boards of a family group of companies. Grant was invited to join the National Board of Habitat for Humanity in December 2008.

Tony Lanigan B.E. (Hons) (Civil), Ph D, FIPENZ, MICE - Vice Chair

A foundation Director of Habitat for Humanity New Zealand, Tony was appointed as Chairman in 2004. Tony was Director of Infrastructure Auckland for 5 years to 2004, Chancellor of Auckland University of Technology 1996 – 2001, where he was also a founding Trustee 1998 – 2001. A Civil Engineer, he holds Directorships in several private companies, was a foundation Trustee of NZ Housing and has served with other charitable trusts.

Tony became a Habitat for Humanity International Board member in 2003, and in 2007 he was elected Vice Chairman.

Tony holds a B.E. (Hons), PhD, FIPENZ & MICE, and is resident in Auckland.

Ian Hay JP (Founder President)

Ian served on the establishment committee for Habitat for Humanity New Zealand, and has served as Chairman from inauguration in 1993, until 2004. He rejoined the National Board as a Director in 2008.

His background is with the family building and property investment company, where he started as an apprentice carpenter, and is now Chairman.

Ian has served on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity International, also as the Board’s Chair of Audit, Treasurer, Chair of Finance, and Chair of the Asia/Pacific Area committee.

Craig McFarlane (MBA Henley)

Craig is a resident of Hamilton and is currently a Director at Large on this Board. Craig is also, a Director of Habitat for Humanity Central North Island, the Chairman of the Midlands Regional Health Network Charitable Trust and involved in numerous other businesses. Craig is a former Chair and Board Member of Waikato Primary Health Ltd (a PHO), former director of The Sustainable Business Network (Waikato and National), former Director of The Waikato Chamber of Commerce, a former CEO in the Perry Group, former resident in Singapore (working in an Asia/Pacific Commercial role for a brewery). Prior to that Craig had twelve years in various commercial roles with DB Breweries.

Craig has an MBA through the Henley Management College (UK).

 

Arran Boote

Chartered Accountant / leads the tax consulting practice for O’Halloran Ltd / recognised nationally for taxation and trust expertise / regular conference presenter in New Zealand and overseas on international tax and trusts issues / Director of a number of private NZ companies and a Trustee of a number of private and charitable trusts.

Matt Casey QC LLb (Hons)

Matt is a lawyer in Auckland, with a particular interest in environmental and public law. He has over 25 years experience in most areas of legal practice. He was senior litigation partner in a leading New Zealand law firm before going out as a barrister in 2002, taking silk in 2007. He has been involved with several charitable and environmental organisations, as well as chairing a school board of trustees and a medical ethics committee.

Ken Stevenson QSM

Ken is a registered valuer in a private practice in South Auckland. He is currently Chairman of the New Zealand Housing Foundation, Adventure Specialties Trust and Marsden Bay Christina Camp Trust. He is the founding Chairman on Manukau (now Auckland) affiliate and was elected affiliate representative of the National Board in 2004.

Margaret Cook

Recent Board Chair for the Habitat Invercargill Affiliate for seven years. Has had experience in non-government and voluntary sector at national board level, holding executive, vice president and president positions, for a total of eighteen years. Continues to participate at local level, currently chairing Southland National Council of Womenand the Southland Interagency Forum. Recently retired as an elder in Windsor Community Church (Presbyterian) but assists in fundraising, most recently as convenor of the finance strategy committee to raise $1.3m for property development. Married to Keith, Margaret was a teacher specialising in Special Education at secondary level.

Appointed South Island representative to the National Board in 2009.

Malcolm Pearce

Married to Kim for nearly 29 years. Owner/ Operator of a 180 cow Dairy farm in North Taranaki . Director of a small building company. Previous Governance roll on School Boards of Trustees. Elder in Northpoint Baptist Church Involved with Habitat on the Local Taranaki Board since its inception in 1995. Experience in two overseas builds with Habitat

Appointed Lower North Island representative on to the National Board in early 2009.

Lynnette Flowers

Lynnette Flowers has a Bachelor of Arts and was a secondary school teacher for over 25 years before entering the world of business in 2001.

Lynnette moved to Hamilton from Napier in 2003 and quickly became very involved in the Waikato business community.

Lynnette is involved in a number of community organisations at board and trustee level. They include Habitat for Humanity Central North Island, Habitat for Humanity National support Centre, Community Living Trust, Big Hearts Charitable Trust, the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic Netball Franchise and she is Chair of Netball Waikato. In 2010 she resigned from the Waikato Chamber of Commerce Board after 7 years.
 
Appointed Central North Island representative to the National Board in 2011.
