Current Projects

 Wymondley Road, Otara

Eleven houses are to be built in partnership with the New Zealand Housing Foundation (NZHF), as part of the comprehensive Wymondley Rd development. Work has commenced on two houses and they will be built progressively during 2010 and 2011.

There are a large number of individuals and corporate teams already involved and more will be sought over the next two years.  To date we have had teams from Daimler Mercedes Financials, ANZ Bank, Tonkin Tools, Framework Trust and IAG Insurance plus many individuals. Please contact us about coming on site as a volunteer.

A Few Past Sucesses

Tuakau Development

Two houses were built at 2 Dominion Road, Tuakau is project by Habitat Greater Auckland and the Housing New Zealand (HNZC).  There are nine houses in total and Habitat built two.  All nine houses are of a similar style and situated close to the centre of Tuakau which is only 40 minutes drive from Auckland. Franklin was the birthplace of Habitat in New Zealand in 1992 and it's exciting to have worked for families in this area once again.

An American Global Village team started the work on 30 March 2009 and work continued with local volunteers. The houses are of a very nice single storey three bedroom brick veneer construction.

West Coast Road Development

Three houses have been built in partnership with the New Zealand Housing Foundation (NZHF), as part of the comprehensive West Coast Road Development. We are delighted to have these finished and handed over to the families just before Christmas 2008.

The NZHF is a fellow third-sector housing provider that Habitat Greater Auckland has identified as a key strategic partner. The West Coast Road Development is the fourth project that Greater Auckland has worked on with the NZHF, the others being houses in Clendon, Wymondley and one in Takanini also handed over to the family before Christmas 2008.

Habitat is grateful to all the volunteers from many different businesses and organisations and also the large numbers of individuals who registered to work on these houses.

Speed Build

Until just a few years ago, Habitat Greater Auckland held the Habitat World Speed record for building a house in 3 hours 44 minutes and 59 seconds. Habitat in Birmingham, Alabama are the current record holders but we are confident we will win back the title in due course, and bring the trophy home to its rightful place.

Kakanui

Habitat Greater Auckland was delighted to dramatically improve the living conditions of a Kakanui homeowner, giving her a hand up through the full renovation of her home to the north of Helensville.

The project was completed with the support of Housing New Zealand. Before Habitat got involved, the house had no running water, no power, no proper guttering, no indoor toilet (outdoor longdrop), windows missing, and a leaky interior.

The house was given a complete makeover, with solar power installed for lighting, gas fridge, hobs and hot water fitted, all windows fitted and re-glazed, and both a front and back door built in with accessible entrance points. A full paint job was done, a new roof, guttering and rainwater collection placed, a bathroom and useable kitchen built, and insulated walls installed.
